FGB UPDATE

 GYM REVOLT raises over $7,900!

BERKELEY HEIGHTS — On Saturday, Sept. 17th, Gym Revolt hosted its first “Fight Gone Bad” event which raised $7,910 for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, CrossFit kids, and Camp Patriot. Ten competitors trained for several months in preparation for this seventeen minute grueling event that challenged their strength, stamina and overall fitness.  This event included push presses: pressing 75lbs overhead, sumo deadlift high pulls: pulling 75lbs off the floor-to-over pecs, wall ball shots: squatting down and tossing a 20lb ball-10ft into the wall, box jumps: jumping up and down onto a 20” platform, and row machine. The participants’ endurance and overall conditioning was tested every second of every exercise by performing the maximum amount of repetitions at each for one minute straight. To prepare for this event, Gym Revolt members met three-to-four times per week for group training classes.

The proceeds from Fight Gone Bad went to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, CrossFit kids, and Camp Patriot. “FGB is for a wonderful cause, and we were very glad to be able to host this event,” said Joe Bellisano, co-founder of Gym Revolt and manager of the event. “Our members trained hard to get ready for this competition, and they also worked hard to raise money for their sponsorships. We’re grateful for their hard work and commitment.”

For Their Kids: September 17, 2011, Berkeley Heights

Gym Revolt
Wednesday, September 14, 2011

On Saturday, September 17th, Gym Revolt will be doing a grueling 17-minute workout for a charity known as Fight Gone Bad.  In addition to supporting Camp Patriot andISR/CrossFit Kids Initiative, their primary effort will be dedicated to raising money for the Special Operations Warriors Foundation to fully fund the college scholarships of the 21 children who lost their dads on August 6, when thirty US troops, most of whom were special forces, were killed, when a Taliban rocket downed their helicopter in east Afghanistan (for more information on Fight Gone Bad please visit www.gymrevolt.com).

Scott Zagarino, founder of the Fight Gone Bad charity event said, “These men gave us all they had. The least we can do is give them the comfort of knowing their children will be taken care of.  We'll make sure they get the education each of these men would have wanted for his children, as our way of giving thanks.”  Gym Revolt invites local media organizations to document the event first hand – camera crews and photographers are welcome – both leading up to the date and the day of.
Where: 99 Industrial Road, Berkeley Heights, NJ 07922
What: the precise workout scores individuals based on the following:
Wall-ball:  20-pound ball, 10 foot target (reps), sumo deadlift high-pull:  75 pounds (reps), plyo-jump:  20” box (reps), push-press: 75 pounds (reps), and row machine: (calories)
“Fight Gone Bad captures the Gym Revolt member’s passionate commitment to personal fitness and strength and - for just one day - utilizes this passion to give back for causes that address immediate needs in our country.  Most of us have or know a father, mother, brother, sister, cousin, aunt, uncle, distant relative, or friend overseas risking their lives for our freedom.  Since Gym Revolt has proven what we can do as a community, increasing our fund raising results each year, we are proud to announce that we are an active part of this year’s mission to support these kids and veterans.  You can read more about these charities by visiting our site, under the ‘upcoming events’ tab. Thank you in advance for any and all support!” said Joseph J. Bellisano, co-founder of Gym Revolt.
Gym Revolt’s philosophy is based on the premise that our bodies and mind respond to constantly changing environments and workouts while our experiences are enhanced powerfully in a team driven environment.  We believe that our bodies can be worked effectively without expensive, exotic equipment- in a simple, spare environment without all the trappings of an expensive, trendy health club.

9,300 CrossFitters and 31 kids

Recipe Of the Day:

On August 6th 31 children lost their fathers in the same day. As it is, most of us don't stop long enough to breathe, much less ruminate for just a second what it would be like at 10-years old to watch as two uniformed men inform your mother that a grateful nation is telling her that her husband will never return, or that before she could even grasp the enormity of that grief, she had to tell her children. Since you may have read this far, ponder for a second the breaking hearts and the fear that goes from stunned to crumpled.

"I have to apologize to you all, here and now, for doing something I had no right to do. We committed to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation that we would fund 60 college scholarships this year from a portion of the proceeds of Fight Gone Bad. On Aug 7th I called Steve and gave him my word we would fund 31 more scholarships. I had no right to commit to that on your behalf, but I gave my word and if it costs us everything, those kids are going to school." ~ Scott Zagarino

More than the money, more than the scholarships, it's our friendship, our support and our thanks that these families need now. So, on Thursday, September 1, we're going to publish an open letter listing team by team, box by box, the 9,300 (or thousands more by then) CrossFitters who are teeing it up on September 17 first on the FGB6 Blog. We'll include a list of every registered team and what we've raised so far with an introduction that lets every one of the 31 children know how much we appreciate their sacrifice. We want them to know how much we want to help, and how much they can count on us, not just this September, but every September until they graduate.

Please comment on Facebook, our fan page, and the blog, and let your friend, family, acquaintances, and these kids know who you are and why they matter to you. You may never again have the opportunity to do so much good in 17 minutes. There are more than 1,000,000,000 CrossFitters out there and we can change at least this small part of the world together on the 17th.

On September 17, 2011, Gym Revolt: CrossFit Revolt members will come together to endure 17 minutes of one of our most grueling workouts in honor of those men and women who have given a lifetime of service and sacrifice (Special Operations Warrior Foundation).

For 17 minutes, we will push ourselves further, challenge ourselves deeper, feel the doubt and wonder if we can make it, but then remember why we are there and appreciate fully those who we wish to honor. We turn to you, our community of friends and family, to join us by donating what you can or what you are inspired to give to two phenomenal organizations that provide immediate and measurable support without waste or delay.

Fight Gone Bad: The heart of an athlete can change the game. The soul of an athlete can change the world.
